Here’s a list of smilies and emoticons that the WordPress blogging engine will recognize on our blogs.
I had to make a graphic so the characters would show as they need to be typed in to make the smilie or emoticon.

If you’re wanting to use the animated laugh-out-loud like this
You need to type- colon lol colon
I had to spell it out because if I use the actual colons it’ll give the animation again
You can look on the first line in the right column of my illustration in my post for a reference.
